India is set to further strengthen people-to-people ties with Russia by introducing free 30-day e-tourist visas and group-tourist visas for Russian citizens. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the decision on December 6, stating that India will “soon” roll out a zero-fee visa regime aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing bilateral engagement between the two countries.

Under the proposed initiative, citizens of the Russian Federation will be able to apply for a 30-day e-tourist visa at no cost, significantly reducing financial and procedural barriers for short-term travel to India. Alongside individual e-visas, India will also introduce a matching group-tourist visa, making it easier for organised tour groups from Russia to visit the country.

The move is expected to provide a major push to inbound tourism from Russia, which has traditionally been an important source market for India, particularly for destinations such as Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan, and cultural circuits across north and south India.
